On March 11th, a conference organized by GIFEN and BESSÉ brought together 237 participants in Paris. The gathering aimed to share with professionals in the insurance and finance sectors the advantages of nuclear energy, such as its safety, low carbon emissions, and long-term market visibility and predictability, as well as the methods for its industrial implementation.
Mobilization, new activities, and the needs of the French nuclear sector
This day highlighted the engagement of companies in the nuclear sector and their 200,000 employees in electricity production, which has significantly advanced over the past year. It also served to prepare for the new major program (EPR2, downstream developments in the fuel cycle, etc.).
The new activities in the nuclear sector have also been highlighted, particularly with innovative reactors (SMR/AMR) as well as applications beyond electricity, including in the medical field, space exploration, and heat production.
The discussions ultimately focused on the sector's needs regarding insurance and the organization of financial and insurance markets to address these requirements. Collaborative efforts between industry companies and insurers are essential for effective and balanced risk management, which will significantly contribute to the success of future programs.
Olivier Bard, General Delegate of GIFEN, expressed his appreciation for the organization of this event, stating, "A heartfelt thank you to BESSÉ and all the experts and partners who have enriched this essential dialogue between nuclear energy and insurance. GIFEN remains fully committed to contributing to the development of the country's energy future."
