Under the leadership of Arnaud Snykerque, General Director of SPIE Nucléaire, the company reaffirms its commitment to sustainably support the French nuclear sector in addressing the challenges of modernization and energy transition. With a strong local presence, it ensures operational responsiveness and maintains close relationships with its clients – EDF, Orano, CEA, ITER, Framatome, TechnicAtome, and many others – to assist them in their strategic projects.

What are the areas of intervention for SPIE Nuclear?

A subsidiary of a group committed to the nuclear sector since the construction of the first reactor in France 70 years ago, SPIE Nucléaire leverages its recognized expertise in electrical, mechanical, climatic, and nuclear engineering to enhance the reliability and compliance of infrastructure throughout the entire fuel cycle.

The company operates on the strategic equipment of the French nuclear fleet, providing preventive and corrective maintenance, regulatory compliance, and adaptation of installations to technical advancements. Its expertise in electrical engineering encompasses the modernization of power supply and control systems, while its skills in ventilation and containment ensure safe operating conditions in sensitive areas.

The company also plays a key role in the development of new reactors and new projects. It is involved in the EPR2 program, which aims to enhance nuclear production capacity in France. In June 2024, SPIE Nucléaire, in partnership with Eiffage and ABC, secured a strategic contract with EDF for the supply and installation of the main diesel backup generators intended for six EPR2 reactors. This project reflects its commitment to revitalizing nuclear energy and securing the country's energy infrastructure.

What are the recent updates from SPIE Nuclear?

SPIE Nuclear continues to enhance its expertise and intervention capabilities. In July 2024, it completed the acquisition of the companies ABC, ETC, and SIRAC, which are now united under the GIE HORUS. This operation strengthens its know-how in predictive maintenance and industrial inspection, which are strategic areas to ensure the longevity and performance of nuclear facilities.

SPIE Nuclear is also a key partner for operators and industries in the nuclear sector, focusing on extending the lifespan of existing facilities and developing next-generation reactors. At the World Nuclear Exhibition 2023, it signed a five-year framework contract for the implementation of general electrical installations on operational reactors. Its expertise is thus utilized within the major refurbishment program, which aims to extend the lifespan of nuclear power plants by enhancing their safety and performance.

Furthermore, SPIE Nuclear has played a key role in the completion of the Flamanville EPR construction site, where it has been present since 2009. In partnership with Cegelec, it has carried out the general electrical installations, deploying 2,150 kilometers of cables, and has installed monitoring equipment for the fuel building, the controlled access area, and the enhanced protected area. This project demonstrates the company's ability to engage in large-scale infrastructure and to support technological advancements in the sector.

What is the role of SPIE Nucléaire in the revival of nuclear energy in France?

To support the revival of nuclear energy and prepare for the future of the sector, SPIE Nucléaire is making significant investments in skill development and innovation while also supporting research. The energy transition necessitates the modernization of existing infrastructures while ensuring the ramp-up of future reactors. The company is fully engaged in this dynamic by leveraging its expertise in optimizing facilities, enhancing system reliability, and adapting to new safety requirements.

She has made training a priority to ensure the renewal of skills and meet the growing needs of the sector. In 2024, over 45,000 hours of training were provided to employees, and the Mobile Security Schools (EMS) continue to educate 800 employees each year on radiation protection and safety protocols. Through these initiatives, SPIE Nuclear is helping to develop a new generation of specialists capable of operating and maintaining nuclear infrastructure under optimal safety conditions.
With proven expertise, a central role in major industrial projects, and a strong commitment to innovation and training, SPIE Nucléaire positions itself as a key player in the entire nuclear sector in France.
