GIFEN has been awarded €5 million in funding for its GENESIS project, as part of the call for projects "mutualisation of resources at the service of the sectors and digital platforms of the sectors", operated by Bpifrance on behalf of the State as part of the Future Investment Programme (PIA).

Accelerate the digital transition of the nuclear industry

Under the impetus of the industry's major principals - Andra, CEA, EDF, Framatome and Orano - the GENESIS project aims to accelerate the digital transition of the nuclear industry. This will be achieved by providing digital services within collaborative platforms for all players in the industry of all sizes (SMEs, VSEs, etc.). These services include:

  • Digitalisation of the manufacturing process for equipment subject to the ESPN (Nuclear Pressure Equipment) regulations, from design to factory inspection, with estimated gains of 20% on compliance certification costs, greater control of schedules, easier access to ESPN contracts;
  • simplifying and securing data exchanges between the operator and the engineering companies involved in modifications to the nuclear power plant so that the entire supply chain gains in productivity.

Recognising that "the organisation of information exchanges in the industry is an important lever to enable the players in the French nuclear industry to shorten component design, manufacturing and inspection times, increase the availability of the plant, lower operating costs and improve safety", the General Secretariat for Investment (SGPI), which is responsible for implementing the Future Investment Programme under the authority of the Prime Minister, expects the GENESIS project to rapidly improve the performance and safety of one of the major French industrial sectors.

For Cécile Arbouille, General Delegate of GIFEN, "the digitalisation of our industry is a major lever to ensure the sustainability and productivity of the French nuclear fleet. The GENESIS project illustrates GIFEN's ability to bring stakeholders together around common issues, in order to mobilise the French nuclear industry with a view to renewing the fleet and making it fit for the future.
