The GIFEN (Group of French Nuclear Industry Professionals), established in 2018, is the professional association that represents all players in the nuclear sector in France.
It currently brings together over 600 companies, including operators of French nuclear facilities, large corporations, as well as mid-sized enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, professional organizations, and associations.
The GIFEN addresses cross-cutting issues in the nuclear sector and supports nuclear companies with their common challenges by offering services aimed at achieving excellence. To accomplish this, it collaborates closely with authorities and public institutions, including ministries and the Strategic Committee for the Nuclear Sector (CSFN). Given the significance of nuclear energy for national sovereignty and reindustrialization, GIFEN also fosters intersectoral synergies.
The actions of GIFEN revolve around 3 missions:
1. Document, structure, and represent the nuclear sector
The GIFEN aims to unite the nuclear sector, represent it to all its stakeholders, and implement actions that help improve the relationship between society and its nuclear industry. To achieve this, GIFEN runs programs to characterize the sector by maintaining an up-to-date database and outlook, which provides a medium- to long-term perspective. Additionally, GIFEN represents the French nuclear industry in societal discussions at both national and international levels. In this regard, he carries out communication activities, participates in public consultations organized for industry projects or initiated by political authorities, and engages with institutional stakeholders.
2. Stimulate the engagement of the sector around performance
The main mission of GIFEN is to enhance the performance of the nuclear sector by focusing on three key areas: improving industrial performance to ensure quality control and optimize project timelines; developing human and industrial resources in line with the consolidated workload plan; and ensuring the long-term economic and financial stability of companies within the sector. These three areas translate into specific actions, and GIFEN is dedicated to establishing and implementing a framework of excellence for the industry.
3. Support the development of innovative solutions
Nuclear energy is a promising industry for the future, and the third mission of GIFEN is to support the development of innovative solutions. They lead collaborative efforts in research and development, focusing on various areas such as the long-term operation of existing equipment (like reactors and fuel cycle facilities), new power reactors (EPR2), and innovative designs (SMR/AMR). Additionally, they work on initiatives that promote sustainable nuclear practices, including decommissioning and cleanup efforts. Nuclear energy has significant potential for development beyond just electricity production. The GIFEN aims to collaborate with industries in various fields, including healthcare, space, and heat production.
Within GIFEN, the nuclear industry is a collective mobilized for the future.
